jennythereader: (Lydia Bennet: Silly!)
I loved the Avengers movie, and when I saw a kid's Captain America costume at the mall yesterday, it struck me that a costume based on the movie would be a lot of fun. So who to be?

Well, there are three female characters with significant(ish) screen time, so I thought about them first.
Pepper Potts
I am not shaped properly to costume myself as any character Gwyneth Paltrow has ever played, so Pepper was right out.
Maria Hill
Same problem as Pepper, and I don't remember anything she wore as being particularly work appropriate.
Natasha Romanov
She's closer to my body type, but her wardrobe is even less work appropriate than Hill's.

So having crossed all of the major female characters off the list, I turned my mind to the male characters.

Nick Fury
This would take too much makeup for me to want to bother with.
Clint Barton/Hawkeye
Do-able, but the sleeveless costume would get a little chilly.
Loki
Theoretically do-able, but it would take a lot of work to put together and might be expensive.
Steve Rogers/Captain America
The Captain America costume isn't really work appropriate, and Rogers' everyday clothes aren't distinctive enough.
Thor
Same problem as Loki.
Tony Stark/Ironman
I could probably manage Tony Stark in his regular clothes, but Ironman is right out. There's no way I could do that in a way that I could function in it, especially for a reasonable budget.
Bruce Banner/Hulk
Very, very do-able, and what I decided to do. Actually, this was my first instinct, but I had to think about the others before I decided on this one.

See, I'm pretty sure I could pull off the "rumpled, absent-minded professor" type fairly well. I also think it would be pretty easy to imply Hulk without having to actually make a Hulk costume.

What I'm thinking of doing is that moment just before Banner turns all the way into the Hulk on the Helicarrier. He's wearing a purple button-up shirt and grey slacks. I figure I can get those at a thrift store for a reasonable price. I'll put a few holes in them, maybe damage them in other ways, and then wear them over a pair of green tights or leggings and a green shirt. I'll also use little touches of green make-up, and maybe some streaks of green dye in my hair.

What do you guys think?
