I wouldn't quite call it a nightmare, but it was absolutely unpleasant.

I was at Pennsic, enjoying a late afternoon of hanging out in my encampment. I wasn't camping anywhere familiar, or with anyone I knew, but dream-me was comfortable there.

Over the course of about 15 minutes the sky goes from slightly cloudy to black-ish green, and 2 funnel clouds form over the site as I watch. I hear a huge cracking sound and see a flash of light behind me, and I turn around to see smoke rising from a few hundred yards away and both a lightning strike and another tornado touch down. I hear screaming coming from all around me.

Then the dream jumped forward in time. I'm not sure how long, but it was well after dark.

There are so many people injured and so much damage has been done to the site that in most cases they aren't trying to bring the ambulances to them. I'm with a small group of people walking from camp to camp, looking for injured folks and for wagons to use to bring them up to the main gate, where the medical people are performing triage. And people are refusing to loan their wagons. We're trying to explain how important it is, that it could save lives, but they just won't listen.

Science wakes up to people's increasing ability to manipulate their own dreams

I have wonder if it has anything to do with video games (ie: visual entertainment you have some control over) becoming more a part of day to day life. I guess you'd test that by finding out if people who play more video games have more lucid dreams.

I have them once in a while, and they usually end up being my more interesting and memorable dreams.

I wasn't anywhere in them. They were more like watching random snippets of a movie. Also, my brain seems to do some fairly cool fantasy world-building when I'm not trying.

This is what I remember:

- Some people had the ability to make ships travel long distances really quickly (interstellar? cross-dimension?)
- Some people could do other types of magic.
- A person could only do one type or the other
- Both ran in families
- most nations made use of both abilities in a fairly egalitarian way (allowing for the overall regency/Victorian Western Europe feel of the world as a whole)
- most nations allow intermarriage between both type of magicians and magicians and non-magicians
- one nation (sort of Czar-ist Russia feeling) had a ruling class made up of other magic users, who pretty much had absolute power over everybody in the country
- Russiain’t* enslaved the distance magicians, and basically treated them like draft animals
- Russiain’t leaders also did nasty magical experiments on the distance magicians, trying to figure out a way to do that magic themselves. The experiments frequently killed or burnt the magic out of the victims
- The distance magicians had originally all come from one region (faux-India?), and because Russiain’t had forced them to only interbreed with each-other they still looked distinctly different from the general populace in that country. In the rest of the world they had been able to marry as they pleased and so were more homogenized with the general population.

I've been laying in bed the last hour, half awake, half dreaming and half planning an episode of Shadow Unit in which Sol and Daphne have a surprisingly easy time taking down a Gamma who thinks he's a Harry Potter style wizard. I may need to commit fan-fiction.

Body: Not bad.

Reading: I'm still reading The Kalevala: Or Poems of the Kaleva District

Hearing: The Commonwealth Club of California's podcast

Etsy find: Just Breathe, a silver and topaz necklace.

Project Follow-up: I did get the envelope filled, but did not get it mailed. I also did not get the cherry cordial strained.

Tonight's Project: A few errands, including the post office, craft store, and grocery store. When I get home, straining the cordial and finishing the stuff I'm making for this weekend.

Randomness: Three part randomness today. 1) Another odd dream last night, the only bit of which I remember is one line "and the gavel sent him home," which I somehow knew was an euphemism for an order of execution. 2) The cats seem to have traded places on the bed. Skif is now sleeping on the pillow between my head and the wall, while Ender is sleeping between my feet. 3) I jumped off a cliff yesterday and so far seem to have landed well. I think I need to be proactive instead of reactive more often. Yes, that's intentionally cryptic. If I think you need to know details, I'll tell them to you.

I had the weirdest dream last night. Unfortunately I was blasted awake pretty abruptly by Tom's alarm clock, so the details have fled.

All I remember is that it involved some of the characters from Shadow Unit, some people I know from assorted cons, and some really disturbing imagery and events. I don't remember what those events and imagery were, just that they were disturbing.
