I am completely fed up with the New York State Senate.

They're putting politics ahead of governance to an unheard of degree.

As a citizen of the State of New York, I have decided to never vote for any of these men and women again, for any office.

The official list of senators on the state government website.

The Senator currently failing to represent me is Neil Breslin, from District 46. I voted for him the last time he ran, but will not do so again.

What are they up to now that's so much worse than the usual? (I tend to follow news on a "it becomes too noisy to ignore" basis; I get much less indigestion that way)

This is a decent article (http://www.theledger.com/article/20090624/NEWS/906245018?Title=N-Y-Senate-Session-Goes-Awry-With-Jabs-Antics) about some of the most recent developments.

Basically, a couple of of NYC Democrats made a deal with the Republicans to take control from the Democrats. Then, one of them changed his mind and went back to the Dems. Right now it's split 50/50 between the parties, and they're so busy arguing about who is in charge that they aren't doing any work. There are all sorts of really important things that need to be done soon and the idiots are playing politics.

What a bunch of morons.

Instead of fighting about controlling things, how about passing (or repealing, there's an idea) a few laws? Settling budgets? Giving me money? Well, okay, the last one probably isn't high on their list.

I'm just glad anytime some other state makes our Lege looks like not quite the worst in the nation :)

Anytime. :-/

Although I no longer live in New York, I had already decided that the next election cycle, for me, is the "vote 'em ALL out and start over" cycle. Patrick agrees. Join us, and we'll have enough for a movement. :)

There are a few incumbents that I'd vote for again, but yeah, most of them need to GO.

My suggestion, as always, is that all elections should have as a choice "None of the Above".

If "None of the Above" wins the election, then the election must be held again -- AND NONE OF THE PRIOR CANDIDATES MAY PARTICIPATE, as they have all been given a vote of "Nyet".

The whole thing would be damn funny if it didn't put the whole state at risk from their basic inaction. I would say this is a new low for state governance but there are so many to choose from; it's defiantly in the top 10 though.

Both sides need to admit total failure before we can proceed either having Patterson step in as tiebreaker or binding arbitration.

Exactly.

I think the first thing they need to do next session is re-write the rules (or start the process to amend the state constitution) so that if the Governor is replaced by the Lt. Governor mid-term, a new Lt. Governor is appointed. If they had somebody in office to break ties I don't think things would have gone quite this far.

I completely, totally, 100% agree with you. Next election, I'm voting a strict "not the incumbent" line. This bunch of children needs to be spanked.

I won't be voting for any of these folks for dog-catcher, much less for any office with actual power. They've all shown they can't handle the responsibility.
