The Good and the Bad

Every time I listen to the soundtrack of The Producers I'm reminded of how much I like Matthew Broderick in musicals.

And then I remember how much his version of Music Man (as it was filmed at least) sucked. It's nearly unwatchable, and a large part of that can be laid directly at his feet.

Robert Preston is a hard act to follow.

True.

My main problem with Matthew Broderick as Professor Harold Hill is that he plays him as the same sort of character as Leo Bloom in The Producers. That is, as someone who isn't really confident that he's going to get away with the scam. He should have been remembering what it was like to play Ferris Beuller.

I agree, that is entirely the wrong way to play that part!

And don't even get me started on Kristin Chenoweth as Marion Paroo.
