I need to start making plans further in advance...

I've requested my birthday off from work and I had hopes of spending the week-end in NYC, doing some shopping, hitting a few museums, and maybe going to a Broadway show.

In order to do this I would need to get a hotel, and unfortunately I seem to have delayed too long. I've been checking hotel rooms, and my choices come down to $300.00+ a night nice places or a $40.00 a night shared room in a hostel. Neither option really appeals. If I had tried to make my hotel reservation several months ago I would probably have been able to find something.

I think I need to re-think my love of spontaneous travel plans. This is not the first time that it's backfired on me.

Crap! Is there any point in trying one of those last minute spots like priceline? You just know there are going to be rooms sitting empty! I've never tried one of those services, though.

Good idea. I'll check priceline when I get home.

Well, we're only an hour from the city. You are always welcome to crash, should you choose to do so!

What's the best way to get from your place to the city? Keep in mind that I refuse to drive in NYC.

There is the train 5 minutes from the house which will take you to Penn Station, or the 35 minute drive over the bridge to Beacon Train Station that will take you to Grand Central.

Either of these drives is included in our hospitality package. Room, board and a glorious drive in the country. Come on down!

5 minutes to a train to Penn Station... That could work. I'll give you guys a call later.

Yeah, seriously. If you ever want to go to NYC spontaneously, consider a hotel (shold you not stay at friend's homes) in Poughkeepsie, which has trains RIGHT nearby, and isn't going to cost you an arm and a leg.

When I day-trip it, I always drive down to Poughkeepsie and catch the train. It seemed like it would be more trouble than it's worth to go that route for a whole weekend.

erm. if need be, marius and i have an apartment with a futon/guest bed in the living room.

seriously.

always available for crash space.

You mean it? That would be even more convenient than crashing with the Harmony Drive household.

[identity profile] fallenlibrarian.livejournal.com 2007-10-15 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
yes. i do.
question is when would you be needing the crash space? i don't have your birthday off the top of my head.

Thank you so much!

It would be this Saturday & Sunday nights (the 20th & 21st). I have to look at train schedules from Albany before I could be more specific.
