A Good Afternoon/Evening

Tom and I went for a very nice drive today. We took my car and did a meandering sort of journey through the countryside. Very pretty leaves, and a nice time. When we got back into town I was craving seafood, so we attempted to go to Red Lobster for dinner. I'm very happy to say that the parking lot was so full that we gave up without even going in. Instead, we went up a couple of blocks to The Real Seafood Co.

It was amazing. For an appetizer we had some of the best Stuffed Mushrooms I've ever had, along with salad, wonderful rolls, and coleslaw. My Potato Crumb Cod was wonderful, and Tom's Grilled Block Island Swordfish was also very good. We both agreed though, that the highlight of the meal was the Herb Roasted Potatoes that we both got as a side dish. I really don't have the "foodie" vocabulary to explain how good they were.

We were full enough that we skipped dessert, but they have several that sound good.

It was a little more expensive than Red Lobster would have been, but not overpriced. The food was worth what they charged for it. Tom decided that next time we go we should dress a little nicer. Neither of us felt uncomfortable in our jeans & t-shirts, but this is a place worth dressing up for.

Red Lobster...

... is a place me and Kathy go to for the memories. It was where we had one of our earliest Real Dates and one of the most memorable, so we have very fond memories of it.

For seafood, it's ... bad.

Real Seafood is pretty good. Not the best -- the best is probably "Legal Sea Food" in Boston -- but for an inland "we have no idea how fish should really be cooked" place it's pretty good.

The flaw in virtually all restaurants more than about three miles from the ocean is that they overcook all fish. Fish should be very, VERY lightly cooked. Very. Even in good inland restaurants Kathy and I both have to tell them to watch how they cook the fish.

My dish was just about right, but Tom's was a trifle overcooked, which is why it was just very good rather than wonderful.

When/if we ever get out to Boston we'll have to try Legal Sea Food.
