My fiance and I spent the day in New York City. We spent about 3 hours at the Met, mostly in the medieval gallery; but also in the ancient Greek & Roman gallery, the armour area, and a display of gold and silver from pre-columbian South & Central America. I took a couple of pictures of embroidery, which I'll post links to as soon as Tom gets them into his gallery.

After that we were hungry, so we ended up walking almost 30 blocks before we found food that was in our price range. We didn't see anything any closer to the museum.

Our next stop was the NYC public library. They had a amazing display of illuminated books and manuscripts that we looked at for quite a while. Then we went upstairs to the Slavic & Baltic room, but were unable to do what we wanted. Apparently the person who lets you make photocopies of the pictures in the books isn't there on Saturdays. We're trying to figure out a way to get Tom down there on a day that he can look for useful drawings of Russian style armour that doesn't involve blowing off work for a day. The library gift shop had some interesting stuff, but nothing that really screamed "buy me!" to either of us.

When we finished there we had about 2 hours to kill before we had to meet the buses, and ended up wandering around in the general area of the library. We found the two wonderful bead shops that I find every time I go down to the city but can never remember exactly where they are, and I bought a 14" string of amber beads that I'm going to work into a necklace for events.

Over the last couple days I've gotten cards from my Dad (including a $40 check), my grandmother (including 2 pictures of baby!Jenny), Tom's parents ($25 check), Tom's sister Sara & her family, and his bother Ed & his family (a pair of scratch & win tickets). I'm still debating what I'm going to spend the money on. I think maybe a beading tray and a good book or two.
