I finally got back to this cordial and fixed it. I added a 2+:1 sugar syrup to the cordial in a ratio of 1 part syrup to 3 parts cordial and that seems to have helped a lot. Before it tasted a little off somehow, and now it's sweeter and the cherry flavor seems fuller. It also has a better mouth-feel now.

I realized a couple weeks ago that part of what didn't work about the cordials I brought to war was that I had only used a 1:1 sugar syrup in them. 2:1 (which in this case was more like 2.5:1) works a lot better. I need to remember that in the future.
