I really need to get out of this job. It's not that it's difficult or unpleasant, it's just deathly dull and completely unrelated to anything I'm actually interested in.

The problem is that I don't know what to look for next. I've been thinking about what I've liked about all the jobs I've had so far, and this is what I've come up with:
1) I like discreetdiscrete projects with clear beginnings and endings. It can be as quick and simple as help customer X find item Y, or as big and complex as completely reorganizing an entire section of the library.
2) I like solving problems for somebody. The only thing I actually miss about working retail is having somebody come up to me not knowing what they want/need, and being able to think of the perfect thing for them.
3) I love not having to interact with the general public (except for point 2, above).
4) I like mostly not needing to interact with my co-workers beyond general pleasantries.

Anyone have any suggestions?

1. I tym discrete. Discreet projects are the ones you have to be very careful who you talk about them to. :-)

I don't think that would be a very good fit, for two main reasons:

1) I don't have the skills necessary to do the job.
2) Based on what my friends who are sys admins say, it would frequently fail to live up to point 4 on my list.

That IS true about #4. But it is a lot of problem solving.
