Hi, welcome to my life! I just got diagnosed a few months ago and I'm nearly 42.

When I discussed it with my mother, who I always thought of as super-organized, guess what, it looks like I get it from HER.

The basic outline of "why wasn't I diagnosed before?" boils down to this:

1. When we were young, people rarely recognized inattentive-type in anyone.

2. They especially didn't notice it in girls.

3. Especially girls who were smart enough to manage their schoolwork despite the attention problems, because the schoolwork barely took up any brain processing power. We were just "messy," "disorganized," "forgetful," and "not applying ourselves."

In my case it's complicated by being comorbid with bipolar II. So some of the treatment options for me are right out. And also some of the symptoms overlap which made diagnosing it weird - they couldn't make a proper assessment until the worst of the bipolar was under control.

So yeah. Hi!
