2 hours or $20 dollars:

Over the last two years we've had ample proof that Americans will work incredibly hard and put an amazing amount of energy into a cause. Now that the election is over, should we really let all that passion dissipate?

Of course not.

I challenge everyone reading this to, by the end of the month, donate either 2 hours of your time or $20.00 of your money to a cause that you believe in.

I'll be making my donation to Literacy New York.

If you decide to participate please copy this into your own blog, changing my charity to your own choice.

The problem with donating money rather than your own time is that only a percentage of your donation will actually go to said charity with the rest being used to pay salaries, fund lobbyists and pay for advertising. When you actually donate your own time as a volunteer you have control over your own actions and can take pride in something other than a tax write off.

Not true.

If you donate to a local branch of your charity, there's a better chance of the funds being used directly.

Also, if you donate THINGS instead of money, you know it'll be used the way you want, and you can still get the write off!
