Sometimes R&B lyrics can be beautiful, sexy, and subtle. Other times, not so much.

As the finest example of "hit you over the head" I've ever heard, I give you Smokey Robinson's "Let Me Be The Clock". Hear a sample of the song.

The key lyric:
Let me be the pendulum that strikes your chime
For the first time

Yup, nothing subtle about that. Like the original lyrics to "Tutti Fruitti," before they got cleaned up for "white" radio. ("Tutti fruitti/Good booty" -- and on in a similar vein.)

That's great. :-) I hadn't realized that "Tutti Frutti" had been changed.

Yup. If Wikipedia says so, it must be true: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tutti_Frutti_(song)
