I listen to this podcast because it makes me step out of my musical comfort zone. 45% of the time I listen and go "that's pretty cool" and add the artist to my Amazon wishlist. 45% of the time I go "eh, not my thing, but not awful." The remaining 10% is stuff like this, especially the first song in the set:

WHY PLAY SOMETHING THAT SOUNDS THAT AWFUL?!?! I want that part of my brain back.

When does that kid's mommy come to pick her up? And can mommy spring for a few more guitar lessons?

I liked the article that went along with it, especially the part where they mention the singer is "classically trained and a student of composition, but you wouldn't know it from what you're about to hear." Sounds like a lot of damning-with-faint-praise to me.

Anyway, just because you're a student of composition doesn't mean you passed the course. :)

Intellectually, I can accept that there are people out there who enjoy those sorts of sounds. I just won't ever be one of them, and don't really understand how their minds work.

It's not the style I mind -- I can even almost see where she wants to go with the song. It's the utter lack of technique that sinks it.
