In the vast majority of cases, I don't particularly care what somebody thinks of me, I just want them to either have the courage to say it to my face or the common courtesy to not say it where I can't help but hear it.

Of course, since some of the things I've overheard make me think that they at least occasionally read this LJ, it's somewhat passive-aggressive of me to post here instead of calling them on it.
