This morning I had a meeting/interview/registration with AppleOne. They had me do a mini-interview with them, and then gave me several skills tests. Apparently I have a better grasp of MS Word than I had thought: I scored at 85% on the advanced stuff, and 88% on the intermediate section. They also did a few timed data-entry tests that I think I did about average (or maybe slightly better) on.
The tests that AppleOne gave me made me realize what my biggest weakness as a job-hunter is: I'm really bad at assessing my own abilities. I never really feel confident that I can do something well until I'm at the point that I can do it perfectly without thinking about it. This leads to me telling people that I'm "OK," or "not bad" at something when an objective observer would rate me much higher.
When I got home I went to start a load of laundry, only to discover that the landlord still hasn't fixed the dryer. Luckily I noticed this before I put the laundry in the washer. I'm going to give the landlord a call this evening, and will go to the laundromat tomorrow.
I think I'm going to be lazy for an hour or two, and then finish up the dishes and maybe do some baking. I want to make an apple pie but don't really have room to roll out a crust, so I'll probably end up making Apple Crisp.
2:50 Edit: I just got off the phone with the folks from AppleOne, and they have something specific in mind for me, and will call back later in the week to arrange for me to interview with that company. It would be 13 weeks at $10/hr, with the possibility of going permanent after that (I think). Not bad at all.
