I just got off the phone with the temp agency, and they told me that Eddy wanted today to be my last day since I "didn't seem to want to file."

Yes, I was having a difficult time figuring out the details of their filing system. It's one of the most complex I've ever seen, and I haven't had a job that called for filing per se in about 5 years.

However, should I be punished because the woman who was supposed to train me was distracted since the day I started there due to her son's illness and has been out at least part of almost every day? Should I be punished because two of the people I was told I could ask if I didn't understand something were out on vacation for parts of the 8 days I've been there? Should I be punished because I wanted to know how high a priority I should place on a specific task, if it was something I needed to drop everything to do right that minute or if it could wait until I finished the task I was doing?

It does suck, but on the plus side it decreases the chances that I'll be late to my 4:30 interview tomorrow.

I'm very sorry to hear this. Eddy sounds like a bit of an expletive deleted so at least you won't have to put up with it anymore.

I do hope things work out on the job front :)

So sorry to hear that you lost the position at Eddy. Medical filing is a totally different system than regular filing. I'm suprised that they hired you - most require some schooling in it beforehand and there are technical school programs designed to teach it. Have been hearing more and more how hard it is to find and keep jobs today - so much is being outsourced to India, etc. and so many now looking for jobs - anything - are so over qualified but really need to work. It seems today, even the new workers have to acclimatize themselves and prove their usefulness right from the start and yet not be a threat to anyone already working - that's a really hard role to fill. I'll be praying that your interview for the permanent job goes great and that it's something you can really do well at and enjoy. Btw - how is school going???
Love, Hugs, and Prayers, Moms Cerul.

My interview this afternoon is for a position that sounds more interesting, at least by a small margin. It would defintetly be more varied.

School isn't going this semester, as I'm taking the time off to get some money together before I go back.

I guess it's one of the hazards of being a temp. You're thrown into the deep end and expected to swim right away.

One thing I've noticed is that some places hire temps for positions that it's just not appropriate to bring them in for. There simply isn't the time or the resources available to make them able to perform the duties required. I am so sorry that happened to you!

Hey, Jenny - Sorry to hear about the job. Maybe you want to look into finding another temp agency. If you tested really well on the Word & PC stuff, they should have put you in a job where that was useful, no? I mean, filing is a different skill. It seems they didn't try to match you with a job, just were trying to fill the job. There's a lot of them out there - try applying with as many of them as you can find, and then you'll get the opportunity to pick & choose what jobs you want to take. I've worked a ton of temp jobs in my time, and the best job I ever had came from one of them that just worked out to be a perfect fit & they offered me a permanent position - worked there for 5 + years & really liked it. Good luck! ~Heather

I'm actually registered with two agencies at the moment. AppleOne (http://www.appleone.com/) tested me on my skills, and actually seems interested in helping me build a career. They've given me interview advice and helped me to re-write my resume. Ablest (http://www.ablest.com/) is the one that found me the position with Eddy. They haven't offered nearly the support or assistance.

I've heard good things about Kelly services (http://www.kellyservices.com/web/global/services/en/pages/), so I think sometime this week I'm going to go and register with them.

I think that I went through Kelly when I was at GE and was happy with them. Of course that was different because I got the job at GE through my sister but then they put it through the temp agency...which worked out better for both of us...I got a better pay rate and they didn't have to pay benefits. Anyway, if I didn't go through Kelly for GE then I went through it at some other time in my life and was happy. I've also done tons of temp work and really liked it...it's a great way to try on jobs and more often than not can lead to a permanent position. Good luck! Keep at it...it will work out if you are persistent enough! :) Christa
