Body: The soles of my feet hurt, and the palms of my hands feel odd in a similar way, but nothing else seems to hurt.

Book Review: I finished A Caress of Twilight (Meredith Gentry, Book 2). More fun brain candy.

Reading: I started Seduced by Moonlight (Meredith Gentry, Book 3)

Hearing: More episodes of The Commonwealth Club's radio show.

Project Follow-up: We saw Alice on Saturday, not Friday, but we did see it. Good but not great.

Tonight's Project: I started a new embroidery project over the weekend, so I'll probably work on that. I might do a post with pictures this evening.

Randomness: One of the more depressing things about my job is reading about people who want to kill themselves. One of the most disturbing aspects of that is how many of those folks want to pass the responsibility for their deaths onto somebody else. If you want to die, I think it's a bad decision, but it's still your decision. Just... don't do it in a way that puts your blood on someone else's hands. No suicide by cop, no driving into oncoming traffic, no stopping on the train tracks... Please. Don't do something like that to another human being.

I tend to agree. Or worse, someone who commits suicide specifically to cause pain to another person -- that to me is the lowest form of malice.

Every news station I've worked at has had a policy of not covering suicides, because you don't want anyone to think that's a good way to get on the news. This actually happened to a co-producer of mine in Albany: someone called up the newsroom on the overnight, which is when crackpots and weirdos tended to call. This caller was particularly aggressive about a story he wanted us to cover, and for the finishing touch, he threatened to kill himself if we didn't cover it. Finally my co-producer snaps and says, "Well, we don't DO suicides!" I have no idea what happened to the guy -- I hope he didn't kill himself, and I also hope he learned not to bandy that threat around.

That's a good policy. You hear about copycat suicides even without detailed coverage, so I can't imagine what a big problem it would be with more attention.
