Hair idea

So I'm toying with doing something utterly un-natural to my hair.

At the same time, I don't like the idea of doing anything too drastic.

The comprimise I've come up with is to get highlights (or would they be lowlights?) in a dark color that hair does not normally come in. Maybe a deep purple-ish red, or a very dark blue.

What do you guys think?

I presume you're leaning towards overdyeing so the highlights are really giving a blue or purple-ish cast to your natural color? (As opposed to bleaching & dyeing to get the pure color.)

If you go with a reddish color, you'll change how red looks on you. I can't wear red as easily as I could before I did henna.

I like the idea though. I used to have a blue streak in my hair. BRIGHT blue though. Faded to green, then blonde.

Red has never been a good color for me, so I don't expect that to be an issue.

I like the idea. I've been wanting to do a highlights/lowlights sort of thing myself, although in more natural colors. If you need amoral support, I'm in for it some weekend or another.

Cool. I just need to figure out what salon to go to. I don't want someplace too expensive, but I'm afraid to go too cheap.

Yeah. The place I go to for haircuts is inexpensive... but a discount haircut place may not be the best for highlights! If you get it down in the Capital area I'll go with you - any excuse to stretch my personal boundaries!

I'm thinking either Jolie's, which is where I usually get my hair cut, or a beauty school of some sort. I'll have to ponder.

My only concern is that you talk to your work and make sure it is okay before doing it. Not that they need to give you permission, but some types of jobs frown on their employees having crazy hair colors or visible tattoos or crazy amounts of piercings.

As for the idea on a whole, I guess I'm the negative nelly here. I just look at the idea of blue or, what I'm assuming, is not a natural red color but a more crayola type of dark red, as being something teenagers do. For some reason I feel like there is this age that, when you do things like that, it's like your trying to relive some part of your teenagers years that you missed out on. I'm not, in the least, saying that you are old. I just remember being a kid and dying my hair purple or blue sounded awesome but the limit was 'not until you are 16'. And when I was, I did it so much, streaks various colors... until the novelty wore out and I grew out of it. If I want color, it would not ever be a desire for permanent. I would grab one of the clips you put in your hair so you can enjoy the streak for a convention or what not and then take it out again. But... that's me, my opinion, and it does not at all need to follow yours.

That being said, if you really want to do it, I will still support you. I think the purple red would be a little less intrusive than the blue.

I think this is a MARVELOUS idea. I have been wanting to do that forever and ever and ever, but have been so scared to. I DID cut all my hair off in a drastic 'just want to see' way, and i Love it. I just have had to hold onto my own self esteem, or the complements of others when people I love have made fun of me. It's been hard, but I really DO like my haircut.

Good for you. I think hair is one of the safer things to do major experiments with, because it's so easy to undo them. If you don't like a color, dye over it. If you don't like a style, wait a few weeks and then try a different one.
