Yesterday Tom & I went downstate to attend a house warming party for the combined household of
11th_letter,
ioldanach,
nounsandverbs,
purpura, and a couple of other folks whose LJ names I don't remember.
We both had a lot of fun. The crowd was a good mix of people we knew fairly well, people we'd met but didn't really know, and people we'd never met before. It was a very geeky group, which meant I heard and participated in several good book conversations (I think my favorite was the debate over whether Neil Gaimain is overly conceited, or if he is good enough that he deserves to be conceited).
There was good food, good drinks, good singing (a somewhat tipsy crowd singing acapella(sp?) versions of Queen is an...experience).
We got a little turned around getting there, mostly because when I was copying the directions off the internet I forgot to write down how long we should spent on each road. This meant that I didn't start looking for one of our first turns until after we'd already passed it. We finally dug out the map and figured out where we were how to get back to where we wanted to be. It added maybe 45 minutes to the drive but didn't do any other harm. We also got a little turned around on the drive home, but recovered without too much trouble.
We got home very late, and today are going over to Eric & Deb's to meet their daughter Beverly. Tomorrow I have the day off and am going down to NYC.
tamitha_nyc is a friend/shopping goddess who is going to help me select a new winter coat. The one I have is nice, but doesn't really fit very well anymore, and this time I'd like something a little more flattering/fashionable.

Date: 2006-10-08 07:15 pm (UTC)I'm not actually driving the whole way (I'll take the train from Poughkeepsie), but NYC is where Tamitha is, and where the best stores are, so the trip is worth it.
Lucky you! I go down 2 or 3 times a year, but I've still never made it to a Broadway show. Have fun!
