Yesterday Tom & I went downstate to attend a house warming party for the combined household of [livejournal.com profile] 11th_letter, [livejournal.com profile] ioldanach, [livejournal.com profile] nounsandverbs, [livejournal.com profile] purpura, and a couple of other folks whose LJ names I don't remember.

We both had a lot of fun. The crowd was a good mix of people we knew fairly well, people we'd met but didn't really know, and people we'd never met before. It was a very geeky group, which meant I heard and participated in several good book conversations (I think my favorite was the debate over whether Neil Gaimain is overly conceited, or if he is good enough that he deserves to be conceited).

There was good food, good drinks, good singing (a somewhat tipsy crowd singing acapella(sp?) versions of Queen is an...experience).

We got a little turned around getting there, mostly because when I was copying the directions off the internet I forgot to write down how long we should spent on each road. This meant that I didn't start looking for one of our first turns until after we'd already passed it. We finally dug out the map and figured out where we were how to get back to where we wanted to be. It added maybe 45 minutes to the drive but didn't do any other harm. We also got a little turned around on the drive home, but recovered without too much trouble.

We got home very late, and today are going over to Eric & Deb's to meet their daughter Beverly. Tomorrow I have the day off and am going down to NYC. [livejournal.com profile] tamitha_nyc is a friend/shopping goddess who is going to help me select a new winter coat. The one I have is nice, but doesn't really fit very well anymore, and this time I'd like something a little more flattering/fashionable.

If you're driving, feel free to take a break in either direction over here. I can get you better directions than what you had too. The door is always open!

I'm probably going to do my usual trick of driving to Pougkipsee(sp?) and taking the train from there, but thank you for the offer.

Yeah... It's one of those words that I can never seem to spell the same way twice, unless I have it in front of me to copy.

Thank you too for the invite.

By the way, I just realized that I don't have a phone # for you guys. If you don't feel like posting it, could you email me with it?

You were missed here yesterday but it sounds like you had a great day so I'm happy for you!! I have tomorrow off too and am also planning on doing some shopping....also for a coat (Heather needs a new one) although I won't be driving as far as you are! We're going to hit the Poughkeepsie Galleria and surrounding stores to see what we can find. I would imagine that there will be lots of good sales! Heather and my sister and I are going to NYC on November 3rd to see Beauty and the Beast with Donny Osmond! Then Beth and I are going again on November 11th to see The Wedding Singer (my birthday gift to her)

Sounds like tomorrow is the day for coat shopping.

I'm not actually driving the whole way (I'll take the train from Poughkeepsie), but NYC is where Tamitha is, and where the best stores are, so the trip is worth it.

Lucky you! I go down 2 or 3 times a year, but I've still never made it to a Broadway show. Have fun!
