I tried calling his parents on my way home from the hospital last night, but didn't get an answer. I'll try again on my morning break (yes, I have to go to work) at around 9:30.

Tom is doing well. The downward slide seems to have stopped, and he might even be gaining ground. He's eating well, and is walking around the ward when he can. Yesterday, he & his brother Ed even did a Kung Foo form, in Tom's words, "badly. IVs and gowns are not the proper uniform."

We're still waiting for test results which will give us a better idea of when he'll be allowed home.

He's suffering a bit from internet withdrawal, but has several books to read and a portable DVD player and a bunch of movies.

The main problem right now is that he gets worn out really easily. To combat this we have a couple of request for folks wanting to visit:

1. Come between 1 and 5, or 6 and 8. He gets meals at noon and 5, and can't deal with eating, talking, and breathing all at the same time. Any two of the three are fine.
2. No more than 2 visitors at a time.
3. Don't stay more than an hour.
4. Sign up for times in the comments to this post, and try to allow at least half an hour, more would be better, between batches of visitors.

I'll be at work until 3:30, and doing a little running around on Tom's behalf after that. I will have my cell phone [(518) 727-8211] with me and on, but would prefer to keep it for emergencies only.

I want to thank everyone for their good wishes and offers of help. I don't have the words to explain how much we appreciate you all right now.

He does seem to be. It's a shallow curve, but trending up.

You didn't see me on Thursday. I was shaking so bad for most of the day that I looked like I had Parkinson's disease. My co-workers were seriously considering not letting me drive myself home.

Thank you for the thoughts.

I'm very glad to see that Tom is doing better. Please let him know that Margo and I both wish him a quick recovery and are thinking of both of you during this very difficult time.
