I need a dress for the wedding, but not a "Wedding Dress." Yesterday I looked at every likely seeming store in Crossgates, and also the Fashion Bug in Westgate plaza. Today I'm trying Kohls, Marshalls, Dress Barn, and maybe Colonie Center. If I don't get to Colonie Center today, I will tomorrow.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

I ususally have the best luck finding dresses at Lord & Taylor.

The one in Crossgates closed, and I don't know of any others nearby.

Have you tried the anchor stores? Macy's, JC Penny's, Sears and the like. They often have surprisingly good dresses.
And hey, on a whim try out David's Bridal. Not their wedding dresses, but their bridesmaid dresses. Those 2 piece dresses are in right now and they often have dresses.
I am trying to think of boutiques that might have some good places. Saratoga's main street might have something, and Woodstock or New Paltz, certainly but I don't know how far afield you want to go.

And as far as it goes, if you need some alterations and we can manage to get together, I am at your disposal.

I obviously was not paying attention to what I was writing here. Oof. That's a confusing sentance.

I really need a "Mispelling/Bad Grammar" icon. SOmething like a page with words crossed out and re-written, mebbe some red ink... I must think on this.

I literally looked in every store in Crossgates, and now Colonie Center as well. I have a dress being held for me at the Colonie Macy's, but it's not perfect. The fit is wonderful, but the color (a light beige) is a little dull.

I'm going to check Stuyvesant tomorrow.

The time frame doesn't really allow big expeditions for either shopping or fitting, but thank you for the offer.

If you hit Stuyvesant, there are some clothing stores along the back "wall" so to speak that I don't even go in because they never have plus sizes. But you may have much better luck there than I.
Good Luck finding dresses!

having not seen the cut of the dress, I might be talking out my ass... but maybe liven up the beige with a brightly colored scarf or shawl or a chunky bead necklace?

I'm thinking colorful jewelry may be the way to go. I don't really want a scarf/shawl, because it would hide the back neckline, which is something I really like about the dress.

I second the suggestion of Macy's and such.

I currently have a "good enough" dress being held for me at Macy's, but I'm going to keep looking for something better.
