Fat Charlie's father just died. Even in a normal family, the death of your father leads to all sorts of changes in your life. When your father (unbeknownst to you) was the African trickster god Anansi, these changes can be overwhelmingly strange. Fat Charlie meets his brother Spider for the first time, and in the process loses his job, his fiancee, and very nearly his life and sanity. In the end he regains an even better version of his life, and he learns who and what he really is.

I loved this book. It was everything cool about American Gods and more. It was funnier and the characters felt more real, and at the same time more fantastic.

I have it on request from the library. Yay! I really liked American Gods.

It's more or less set in the same world, but it has a very different tone. American Gods was a drama with comic bits, this is more of a comedy with dramatic bits, except where it's not.

Have you noticed that Gaiman's work is really hard to sum up?

It's well worth reading. I think I may actually buy a copy. If I do it will be my first new hardcover purchase in several years.

READ IT! There is probably a waiting list at your library, but it probably isn't too insanely long. I got my copy in about a week.
