Friday: My actual birthday. I was overwhelmed by the number of people who wished me a happy birthday, both here and on Facebook. I think I thanked everyone individually, but in case I missed you I'll say it again. Thank you! Tom and I went out for a nice steak dinner, and had way too much yummy food. My order was a small steak and a lobster casserole, which was so rich I couldn't finish it all. OMG yum. Tom also gave me his birthday gift, this camera: Kodak EasyShare M590 Digital Camera - Silver (New Model). It's a nice little point & shoot I've had on my wishlist for a while. The feature that seems the most useful is that I can tag a picture with what I want to do with it while it's still in the camera, and when I plug it into my computer it will auto-magically happen.

Saturday: I spent a couple hours out running errands and picking up the last odds'n'ends for my halloween costume. I wore a female version of a 1930's mobster outfit, which consisted of a tight black skirt, a white blouse, a pinstriped black vest, and a fedora. I found a plastic violin case, and wore the whole thing with tights that were not these: Spanx Uptown Tuxedo Stripe Tight-End Tights 968 (but were very similar), and with low patent leather heels. I don't have a picture of the final result, but I do have one of the almost finished outfit, so I'll post that at some point. The party started around 7, and we got there about 7:30. Since we were heading different directions at the end of the night we each took our own car. The Halloween party itself was a lot of fun. It was hosted by Tom's friend Jeff (aka Bouncy Jeff, aka Finn) and his lady Amanda. There were only maybe 12 people there, so even though I only knew the hosts and one of the guests I felt pretty comfortable. I stayed until around 10:30, and then headed down to my friends' house near Newburgh. I hadn't had a chance to change out of my costume, so I was still wearing it when I got to Harmony Drive. Everyone at the party and the folks at Harmony Drive who were awake to see me liked it, but since it wasn't the most comfortable costume ever I was happy when I could take it off and pass out.

Sunday: I spent the day just hanging out and talking with everybody who was home. [livejournal.com profile] purpura gave me a little help with a secret project, but most of the day was talking and knitting. I'm coming along on my most recent scarf, and feel like I'm ready to try something a little more challenging next. Maybe a hat. In the evening I got myself all dolled up and went to Poughkipsee and saw Joan Baez perform at the Bardavon theater. The concert was amazing. She did two of my three favorite of her songs ("Joe Hill" and "Long Black Veil", the missing one was "Hobo's Lullaby"), and a ton of other stuff I was less familiar with (but loved). I need to buy more of her albums. Then it was back to Harmony Drive to pass out again (after a little more hanging out).

Monday: I took the day off of work so that I could go into New York City. I rode in with [livejournal.com profile] nounsandverbs, who works in the city and was willing to go in early yesterday. We spent several hours wandering around people watching and checking out stores full of interesting things we couldn't afford. I did make a point of going to Purl Soho, where I bought a skein of really beautiful yarn (in the Confetti colorway, which they don't seem to have online.) We also went into a store full of OMG beautiful (and OMG expensive!) guitars, which were fun to look at even though I know nothing about how to play. Around mid-afternoon [livejournal.com profile] nounsandverbs had to head to work, so we went our separate ways. I spent the next few hours in a slow meander in the direction of the train station I would need to get home. I stopped at The Strand, where I found lots of cool things, but nothing quite worth the hassle of carrying it home. I also stopped at a Lush store and spent way more than I meant to on lovely smelling things to go in the bath. I caught the subway to Hoboken, NJ and then got on the train that would take me back to my car. There were... complications that I know nothing more about that made the train switch from being an express to a local, which meant it took about half an hour longer than normal. The regular commuters complained (loudly) the entire time, which got really annoying after the first five minutes. Eventually I did get back to my car and on the road for home. I stopped at a Walmart to buy a car charger for my phone, only to discover that it was a dud. Grr. I'll be going to the local store tonight to exchange it. I got home around 9pm and vegged out for a while before going to bed... where I promptly fell into a book and lost all track of time until Tom came to bed at 2am. Oops.
