New Computer!

Saturday Tom placed the order for all the bits and pieces that he's going to put together into a new computer for me. I told him what I want it to be able to do, and what price range I wanted to stay in, but he made all the specific decisions about what to get.

Last night the case arrived. I expect all the various innards will show up through the rest of the week.

I did a little reading, and figured out that the easiest way for me to get all my Sims 2 stuff from the old computer to the new is to network the two computers together and then just move the files manually. I'm definitely going to move the houses and things that I've downloaded, but I'm not sure about if I'm going to move the families that I've been playing. It might be interesting to start fresh.

I also recently learned about the Legacy Challenge. Now, the basic concept of seeing if you can keep one family going for 10 generations is pretty cool, but I don't really like all of the restrictions they put on it. No custom furniture? No cheats? (Although, the only cheats I ever use are both allowed, with restrictions.) No mods? My plan is to try it with the stuff I have, and if I can actually make a game last that long with my extras then I'll try by the rules.

I tried the TSR challenges once, but I couldn't get the gizmo that they want you to download to work on my computer. I may try again on the new computer once it's all set up.

I thought that Malcom Landgraab counted as a player character, and that you weren't supposed to add them to the family.

I don't think so. They way I understand it is you can't be able to choose them to play. Can you play him? I rarely play the towns that come with the game.

You know, I couldn't get that thing to work on my old computer either. Of course Sims 2 shouldn't have worked on there either. It's so much cooler with a video card. :) Which is of course, very bad because now I spend entirely too much time playing.

Yeah, if you go into Bluewater Village (the supplied shopping district) his house is there.

By the way, have you ever checked out Mod the Sims 2 (http://www.modthesims2.com/download.php)? You have to register, but it's completely free. They even changed the upload rules recently to stop people from posting things that require paid meshes.

I have, not in a while but I've gotten a few mods from there. Like this wonderful homework one that stops homework and school from draining all the fun from the kids.

I don't have that one, but I've got one that will give kids partial credit for homework that they started but didn't finish.
