First, in case you missed the news, Obama's statement on ABC news.

[Poll #1839440]

Edit To Add: If you guys feel like spreading this link around, I'd be interested to see how a wider pool votes.

I was planning to vote for him anyway (I won't vote for a Republican, ever) and I don't do electioneering, so...

I won't say I'd never vote Republican, but unless they resurrect the ghost of Teddy Roosevelt, it's pretty darned unlikely. :)

Well, I suppose if Honest Abe were resurrected, I'd vote for him.

In the present climate, though, I feel pretty safe saying "never" ;)

I always did plan to vote for him. Romney scares me. However I do hope this article isn't true. Because if this announcement was just a "personal" decision and his political stance is the same then nothing's really changed at all. His announcement will make about as much difference to civil rights as me saying I believe gay people should be allowed to marry.

Hopefully he will base policy decisions on it.

I really hope so. I want to believe he will, and that the article is wrong about it not affecting political choices.

This Question didn't fit in your poll window:

"Does it matter that Dick Cheney came out in favor of Gay Marriage in 2009?"

My answer to that would be yes, because it's pretty symbolic that someone so high up in the Republican party would, but not as much because he's not in a position to make policy.

I would offer that he is still in a position to influence policy on the Right. No different President Obama is on the Left.

Notably, both men have stated it as a personal opinion and President Obama has gone on to state that it remains an issue for the states and not one for The White House. I do not believe Cheney said anything more than it was his position.
