The forward slash has many legitimate uses in the English language. The same is true for the dash and the hyphen.

What none of them can be used for is a substitute for a period. When you do this, it makes your writing nearly incomprehensible. This is a problem when you are telling us why we need to give you money.

Also: PRINT. Typing would be even better. Do not, under any circumstances, use cursive for anything except your signature.

Thank you.

Can I just say how much I utterly hate "w/r/t" as an abbreviation for "with respect to"? It's totally incomprehensible, because that's not how initialisms are written in English. The first time I ran across it in print, I had to Google it, because it made no fucking sense. I kept trying to figure out what the author wanted me to choose between.

I don't think that one has bit me, but I run across stuff at work all the time where someone has used a symbol or abbreviation that they obviously think is widely known. I almost never can figure out what they're trying to say.
