I'm having a hard time looking forward to Pennsic as much as usual this year. I think it's just because there's been so much else going on, lots of it stressful and depressing. The usual giddy "almost time for Pennsic" feeling is getting buried.

Maybe looking at the class schedule will help.

Getting to Pennsic feels rather like a hill to climb, this year. Most years, I dream of Pennsic with some regularity from January onward. While I did have the first dream in January this year, they've been rarer than usual. Lots going on, as you said, and much of it stressful.

The funny thing about the dreams, though? While I obviously know what Pennsic actually looks like, my dreams never look like the real thing does … but I always, always know it's Pennsic. The other funny thing is, I know I'm not the only person for whom Pennsic dreams work that way.

What does Pennsic look like in your dreams?

Not only does it never look like actual Pennsic at the actual site, it never looks the same way twice! At least, not identically. More often than not, the setting is parklike, with varying quantities of trees from a scattered few to state-park-forested. Sometimes it's on a farmer's field (and sometimes, the farm is still active ... just not that particular area). Sometimes it's on the shore of a lake, or possibly the ocean. Usually when it is, I find myself camped near the water. And sometimes right up ON a dock! Sometimes, instead of tents, we have buildings -- though they do comply with Pennsic structure standards, at minimum, and sometimes better. Merchant spaces are often more bazaar-focused than the reality, too. The only thing that stays the same is that it's always different.

And still, somehow, I always know it's Pennsic.
