Also, do you think it would be better to daytrip from your place, or to spring for a room at the hotel?

I have a twofold answer. As much as I'd love to go for a room, because nothing beats having a place to put your stuff and park your keister in an event like that, at 128$ a night and with even the entry fee being a little tough for us...

If I can budget this in, I'll have to day trip it I think. We'll talk, we'll do lunch, I'll have your people call my people.
