I had an idea today for a collaborative project.

Basically, it would be a blank book, sent from person to person. When you got it, you would write about something that brings/brought you joy. Then, you would send it on to someone else. There wouldn't be any set list, so you could send it to someone who you thought needed to read the stories already in it or to someone who you knew had a great story to add.

There wouldn't be any rules about what sorts of stories to tell. If your story is three sentences about the beautiful moon-rise you watched last month, go ahead and write that. If it's thirteen pages about how you met your beloved, go ahead and write it.

The one thing I can't figure out is what to do with the book once it's full.

Is this something that folks would be interested in participating in? Any suggestions or comments?

I am so interested.

You might want to think of a theme. sometimes such things need a jump start to them.

I was thinking that "joy" was enough of a theme. I don't want to restrict things too much.

Yah, that's a good theme.

:-)

Any suggestions for what to do with the full book(s)? The best idea I've come up with is to get a PO box, and put the address in the back of the book with a note asking folks to mail it back when there isn't room for any more stories.

But, given that I have no idea how long it would take for a book to fill up, that could mean keeping the PO box for months before it was needed.

I think it's a beautiful idea. I find the idea of writting something that is supposed to be really meaningful like that for public consumption to be a bit daunting, and suspect that I might be too chicken to contribute, but I imagine the results would be really amazing.

Well, whatever you wrote could be anonymous, but if you still didn't feel comfortable contributing you wouldn't have too.

That's kind of a neat idea. Perhaps when it's full it could be sent to a nursing home or some similar place? Just a thought. Along the same lines.....my Grandmother and I used a blank book for our correspondence. I wrote in it first and sent it to her then she wrote her response to me in it and sent it back to me and on and on it went. Such a beautiful thing to have to pass down through the family. Unfortunately she died when Heather was about two and the book hasn't surfaced yet (she had it last) but still.....

That's a great idea for what to do at the end!

I sent out... 2 or 3 of them and then sort of ran out of steam.
