I've decided I'm going ahead with my Book of Joy project.

This is the text I'm planning on putting on the first page:

Welcome to the Book of Joy!

Within these pages you should find stories of joyful moments and wonderful things in the lives of ordinary people.

After you've read the others, add your own joy. It can be a poem or a paragraph, a story or a drawing, or anything else you can think of that will fit in the book.

When you're done with your contribution pass the joy on. Think of someone who needs a little joy in their life, or someone who you know has a wonderful story they could share. The only rule is that you shouldn't send it back to someone you know has already contributed.

This will be on the last page:
The End

Now that the book is full, what should you do with it?

You could donate it to a local nursing home or hospital, or anywhere else that you think folks could use a little more joy in their lives. For other ideas email (whatever email address I set up for this project). If you come up with a good idea, send it in.

I'm planning on sending it out before the end of the month, and depending on what happens with the first one I may make it a monthly thing.

Anyone have any suggestions?

It sounds like an awesome thing, sweetheart. I think pictures and drawings should be appropriate as well.

Count me in.

I did list drawings, but I'm not sure if I should encorage inserts. I sort of have the feeling that too many extra things stuck into the book would make it awkward to read.

Maybe for a future "volume" I'll use one of those blank books that has a pocket built into it.

I'm going to do a post later for folks to sign up to be the first person I send a book to.

Just so you know, your post the other day about deploying fan-girls was part of my inspiration for this.

I can't wait to get it. I am already composing pages in my head!
Will it be a blank paper book? Easier for drawing things in it.

I already bought a blank with lined pages, but I could always get an unlined one instead.

Not that I want to cost extra cost... (huh that was an amusing sentance)
But I think it might be better for any of the artistically minded types out there...

Yeah, but for the messy writers out there (like me) lined paper is a lot easier.

Maybe when I do the "sign up to start" post I'll ask folks which style they prefer. That way at least the first person will have the option.

I think it's fantastic!

I don't know if I'll be able to contribute to the first one, what with being as busy as I am with the move, but once we've moved I'd love to contribute to one at some point.

I'm probably going to send the first one to [livejournal.com profile] purpura, and she'll pass it on to whoever she wants. So you might get that one someday...

As for future volumes, at some point I'll be doing a sign-up post where people can volunteer to be the first person I send them to.
