jennythereader: (Bear: Nap Time)

I just had my annual check up. New doctor, so there was a lot of history taking. I've been having joint pain lately so I asked him to look at my ankles and hips. He said everything looked more-or-less OK, so the pain in the other joints is most likely related to the existing problems with my knees. I need to loose weight and be more active.

Then he announced that they were going to take some blood for various test. Cholesterol, thyroid, and I don't know what else. I was expecting a pinprick, maybe a test tube worth. No, they took over an ounce (the tech described it as "about a shot glass").

Then, as I was going through the check out procedure, I nearly passed out. My vision went blurry/gray, my knees buckled, and my hearing went wonky. It felt exactly like the one time I did really faint. The staff shoved a chair behind me and gave me water and a sugar pill and made me sit down until I felt better. Once I did feel better I came straight home.

Oh yeah. Multiple tests means multiple tubes. Sometimes more than one for each test.

Ouch -- that's your body saying, "You took what? I NEEDED that!"

Nap time indeed.

I've had that happen, but only when I've lost about a pint instead of an ounce. Definitely a "sit down and drink" time.

Sounds like the first blood tests they ran when I was pregnant. SEVEN tubes.

I wanted to kill them ;p

It ended up being "veg out in front of the computer playing Sims" time, but still, resting.

I don't respond well to needles in general, and when you combine that with the change in blood pressure from the blood draw... not fun.

Mostly. I think I need to eat some more.

Yeah...
I really hate that feeling of the world closing in like that. I hope you feel better soon.

Feeling much less woozy now. Ate more, went out to a movie with Tom, came home and soaked in the tub for a while.
