Jan. 14th, 2006 10:45 pmTom and I just got back from seeing The Producers. We both loved it. Lane and Broderick were both perfect and Uma Thurman did very well with what is something of a one-note character. Will Ferrell was wonderful as Franz Liebkind, the Nazi-in-denial playwright.
I hadn't heard an audience laugh that much at a movie in literally years. All the best jokes from the original non-musical version were kept, as well as some new jokes for modern audiences and some jokes that wouldn't have worked in any format other than a musical. It's rated PG-13, but most of that seems to be for innuendo that I think would be over the heads of younger children anyway.
If you like musicals, go see this! One of the few movies I've seen in the last few months where I felt I got more than my money's worth.
Rating: 10 out of 10.
