Arid Air

I've had a bottle of ice water (Friday's Coke bottle, filled with water and stuck in the office freezer over the weekend) sitting on my desk since I got in this morning. It's mostly melted at this point, but there's something weird going on.

The outside is bone dry. There must not be any moisture in the air in this building at all.

No wonder my skin and eyes always feel dry enough to hurt.

At 70 degrees room temp you would need ( roughly ) less than 30% RH in order to not have condensation on your water bottle. That would be categorized as "a bit dry for some".

Ugh, that's awful. My workplace is the same way -- and it's usually freezing to boot. It's hell on the sinuses.

curlyeric is all scientifical, but if you find it too dry, consider getting a small humidifier for your office. Or if there's a radiator/register, you can put a vase with pretty rocks in it over the area, so that the forced heat evaporates the water. I do that at home, in areas that the cat can't knock them over looking for a cheap disaster thrill.

I'm not sure that this room is even 70 degrees. It's pretty cold in here.

It's pretty bad. On the other hand, at least it got me to realize "Oh, that's why I always get home feeling as if I've had a blow-dryer pointed at my eyes for the last 8 hours."

I have one cubicle in a room full of about 30 others. I'm not sure there is anything I could do in my cube that would make a noticeable difference in that big a space.

I'm trying to just drink a lot of water.

That's also probably why my eye doctor is obsessed with "YOU MUST USE ARTIFICIAL TEARS ALL THE TIME." And why I should get over my contrarian instincts and actually use them.

My eye doctor keeps asking if I use eye drops, but never tells me if I should or shouldn't.

Mine practically shoves free bottles of the stuff into my hand every time I go.
