Sorry I haven't posted for a while. Life is continuing much as it has this past age.

Last week I finally bought Sims 2. I got it home, got it installed, and was told that I didn't have a good enough video card to actually play it. So, with Tom's advice I picked out a new one from NewEgg.com and waited for it to show up. UPS got it to Albany fairly quickly, but they don't seem to have grasped that if you need a signature from the person who the package is addressed to, and they aren't home at 1:00 in the afternoon the first time you try, maybe you should try delivering it in the evening.

I eventually went and picked it up at the UPS offices in Latham. Tuesday night I installed it under Tom's supervision (while he was trying to do about 5 other things at once, thanks love!). The actual object installed easily enough, but the software was a bit more challenging. We finally got it running, and I was able to play my new game.

Sims 2 is interesting. The play is much more dynamic than in Sims 1, and you need to pay closer attention to what your little people are doing.

I may do a more detailed review after I've been playing longer.

Delivery companies are pathetically useless. I'm glad you finally did get your game!!

The game I just picked up at the store. It was the new video card that my computer needed before I could actually play it that had to be delivered.

oops - sorry, I skim entries these days and switched the two in my head.

I'm glad you got to *play* your game, then ;)

No biggie. You're a little distracted these days....

How is the little distraction doing, anyway? I never seem to remember to friend your baby journal.

Fussy and very colicky - the three to four month mystical "end of colic" period can't get here quickly enough!

We're getting by, though, taking it an hour at a time!

I just had a similar experience with Fed Ex.....we were waiting for a package...not knowing whether or not I needed to be here to sign for it I decided to stay at home on the day that the tracking system said it was going to be delivered. I was here all day and nobody came around. That night the tracking system read "customer not available or business closed" so the next morning I called to complain. No explanation was offered as to why the tracking system would lie like that....but I was told that they would attempt delivery again that day....I told them that I would be out all day to which they replied "well then they'll try again tomorrow" and again I said that I would be out all day and that I certainly would not wait around for this package after having done so on the day it was supposed to arrive. So, I went about my business and that day when Ed and I arrived home here at 10:00pm there it was, sitting on our deck! Crazy! He could have told me that a signature was not required. And, if a signature was not required why didn't the delivery guy leave the package on the first day when he found "customer not available or business closed"! Anyway, I won't be using Fed Ex if I can help it. I swear by the post office....I haven't had any trouble with them except for one package that I sent to Heather once that got held up for a long enough time that we thought we'd never see it but it eventually arrived.

Things that make you go "ggrrr!"

Sounds frustrating.

It would be nice if the companies could somehow let you know in advance when you'll need to sign for something.

Oooh, please do a detailed review. I just started playing sims 1 again and am totally addicted (this may be why I quit playing several years ago)and was considering buying 2 but wasn't sure if I want to spend the money on it. It looks interesting but now I have all these hacked objects, skins, animations, etc for 1 and I'm not entirely sure my computer can handle both games...

Look for the review in a week or two. One thing I can say right now is that it looks like it's more difficult to add downloaded stuff to the game.

My computer was working fine with both of them on it, but I wanted more space on my hard drive and ended up un-installing Sims 1.

I use amazingly little of my harddrive. Like less than 20% so I would assume I can manage it. I would probably end up needing both because the kids play too and just from what I've read I think 2 may be a little too much for them to deal with. Okay, they really aren't very good at 1 either but...

It's definitely aimed at a narrower age group, and probably wouldn't be a great choice for younger kids.

That's sort of what I figured. I actually think the boys, or at least Travis, will get bored quickly with Sims 1. It takes too much concentration. Although interactions are interesting when he plays because he can't read and won't let you tell him his choices...

You can kill the sims, and you get a headstone, or urn inside, if you take the urn outside, you get a headstone. I have one house that has it's own cemetary. I use it for those times I cannot kill someone for real.

I knew you could do that in Sims 1, but can you in 2 as well?

That sounds like a good way to relieve stress. Do you make new Sims that look as much like the real person as possible?
