I also like the Stephanie Plum books. They are candy, but still fun.

When I don't know what to read, I always revert to the Peter Wimsey books: http://www.amazon.com/Lord-Peter-Complete-Wimsey-Stories/dp/0060913800/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1324661929&sr=1-1
This book in particular, though it IS a third in the particular series of the books. Usually the books are kind of stand alone, but these four all go together: http://www.amazon.com/Gaudy-Night-Mystery-Harriet-Mysteries/dp/1609982037/ref=sr_1_8?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1324661959&sr=1-8
And finally, Nero Wolfe: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_3_8?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=nero+wolfe+complete+set&sprefix=nero+wol#/ref=sr_nr_p_lbr_one_browse-bin_0?rh=n%3A283155%2Ck%3Anero+wolfe+complete+set%2Cp_lbr_one_browse-bin%3ARex+Stout&bbn=283155&keywords=nero+wolfe+complete+set&ie=UTF8&qid=1324662038&rnid=2272759011
