jennythereader: (Time for Dessert)
The last several years, I've brought a big box of chocolates from Krause's to the Harmony Drive New Years Party.

This year I kind of want to try something different: bringing my own, homemade candy.

Here's a list of some of the recipes I've found. Do any sound especially good to you guys? Do you have recipes I haven't found yet that I need to try?

Also, let me know if any of the links are broken. One thing I don't like about Pinterest is that links sometimes randomly stop working.

... which turned into a poem, kind of

In 2010, I resolve to:

Spend less time thinking about fun stuff I could do if only...
Spend more time doing the fun stuff I've thought of
Take more chances

Spend less time thinking about projects I will do someday
Spend more time doing projects now
Try more experiments

Spend less time stressing about the people I don't like
Spend more time with people I do like
Be more honest with myself and others about which category people fall into

Spend more time enjoying what I have
Spend less time regretting what I don't have
Enjoy my life as it is while still trying to make it what I want

-----------

More prosaically, one task I'm hoping to get done soon is rationalizing some of my online organizing. My tags here on LJ, my tags in delicious, and my bookmarks on my computer all need some re-arranging to actually make any sort of consistent sense.

Hogmanay

In Glasgow and the central areas of Scotland, the tradition is to hold Hogmanay parties involving singing, dancing, the eating of steak pie or stew, storytelling and consumption of copious amounts of alcohol, which usually extend into the daylight hours of January 1.

This sounds eerily like the Harmony Drive New Year's Party to me. (Well, except for the dancing part.)

But then, the SCAdian members of the household are connected to Clan Campbell.

Body: Randomly achy, but nothing major.

Reading: I'm almost done with Sharpe's Rifles. The storytelling technique is more simplistic than I expected, but it's still a great story.

Hearing: Slate Magazine's daily podcast

Etsy find: The Traveler's Shirt. I like the cut, and the fact that it's made with organic natural fibers is a great bonus.

Tonight's Project: I need to hit Krause's and the post office.

Project Follow-up: I succeeded in finding a good shirt for the New Year's Eve party. I win!

Randomness: A great line from one of today's episodes of Second Shift. "What can I say? I get bored easily... and Wikipedia has that random article button..."

So guess who just realized she forgot to get a hotel room for after the New Year's party...

Grrr.

Well, we've driven home at oh-god thirty in the morning before. We'll make do.

jennythereader: (* Chocolate Ice Cream *)
Over the last few years I've gotten in the habit of bringing a big box of candy down to the Harmony Drive New Year's Eve party.

I've been buying from Krause's, but this year I'm considering The Chocolate Gecko.

So I have a couple of questions for the people who will be hosting/attending the party and actually eating the candy: Do you have a preference for where I buy it? Are there any types of candy you'd especially like me to get? I know that [livejournal.com profile] purpura like chocolate covered ginger, [livejournal.com profile] nounsandverbs likes peanut butter cups, and everybody likes fruit slices. Any other favorites I should make a point of getting?

They're kicking us out at 2:00 again. I'm pretty sure I can make up the hours over the rest of the week, and it gives me more time to get stuff done before we head downstate for the party.
