Today is the 25th anniversary of the Challenger explosion.

This remembrance from a teacher and this story from the brother of one of the astronauts who died both made me tear up on the way to work this morning.

We also just passed the anniversary of the Apollo 1 disaster, and are coming up on the anniversary of the Columbia disaster.

If you have an opportunity today, raise a glass (possibly one full of this stuff) in memory of all those who died trying to give us the universe. Let's not make their and their families' sacrifices in vain.

It’s been decided. On October 20th, 2010, we will wear purple in honor of the 6 gay boys who committed suicide in recent weeks/months due to homophobic abuse in their homes and at their schools. Purple represents Spirit on the LGBTQ flag and that’s exactly what we’d like all of you to have with you: spirit. Please know that times will get better and that you will meet people who will love you and respect you for who you are, no matter your sexuality. Please wear purple on October 20th. Tell your friends, family, co-workers, neighbors and schools.

RIP Tyler Clementi, Seth Walsh (top)
RIP Justin Aaberg, Raymond Chase (middle)
RIP Asher Brown and Billy Lucas. (bottom)

Body: The shoulder pain is back again, and it brought friends. All the joints in my right leg are bothering me.

Book Review: I finished Benighted last night. I strongly recommend it to anyone who is (like me) sick and tired of schmaltzy romance novels pretending to be contemporary fantasy. It's a serious, literary fantasy novel about a woman who is normal in a world where 99%+ of humanity is a werewolf (although the author never uses that word). I give it a 9 out of 10.

Reading: I'm re-reading The Secret Garden for the umpteenth time.

Hearing: Marketplace

Etsy find: Hand Knit Socks

Project Follow-up: I started a cherry cordial, only to discover the jar I put it in wasn't big enough to hold all the ingredients. I got what I could in, and I'll transfer it to a bigger jar (and add the rest of the vodka) as soon as I get my hands on one. I also put the first layer of paint on the accessories I'm making for my Wicked Faire outfit and did a little decoupage-ing.

Tonight's Project: I'm going to stay a little late at work, then stop at the mall and/or a craft store to look for a bigger jar for my cordial.

Randomness: One of my favorite authors passed away over the weekend. R.I.P Kage Baker
