This picture is of the scrap of paper I used to test some of the ideas I have for my [livejournal.com profile] 2xcreative project. I wanted to see if the markers I had would bleed or not write smoothly, and also to see how well embroidering worked on this paper. I also was checking how the colored pencils stood out against the gray and how the combination of embroidery threads I choose worked.

I think the markers will work just fine, as will the blend of solid and variegated thread. For the colored pencils, I think I need some reds and some darker oranges. Maybe some metallic gold as well.

I should be able to get started on the actual project tomorrow.

I signed up for October's collaboration over at [livejournal.com profile] 2xcreative and was assigned my partner on Saturday.

We've emailed back and forth a few times, and already roughly know what we want to do. We even have a backup idea in case the Muses don't like Plan A or in case Murphy likes it too much.

I'm really looking forward to it. I'll probably post pictures once I have anything to take pictures of.

Body: My feet and legs are still achy from all the walking I did at war, but other than that I feel pretty good.

Reading: TNT: Telzey Amberdon & Trigger Argee Together (Federation of the Hub, 2)

Hearing: Just music today

Project Follow-up: Pennsic was good, but not great this year. I didn't make it to a single class, but had lots of fun wandering and hanging out with friends.

Tonight's Project: Dropping some clothes off at the Salvation Army, figuring out what the heck I'm making for supper, and maybe some knitting.

Randomness: What creative hobbies do you have? Which ones do you want to learn? My main ones these days are knitting, embroidery, and cordialing; but I also do a little bit of beading, drawing/painting, kumihimo (a Japanese method of cord making), decoupage, and writing. I want to learn crochet, weaving (several different methods), how to read music and sing, and how to dye; I also want to try gardening again.

Body: I'm doing pretty well today. I got enough sleep, and since I remembered to take my Zyrtec last night the itching has mostly gone away.

Reading: Utopia: Thomas More

Hearing: The Commonwealth Club of California

Etsy find: Some pretty notecards

Project Follow-up: Skipped the walk, since my hip was still bugging me. Dinner with the gang was lots of fun.

Tonight's Project: Walking. Tom is probably going to be spending time with a friend, but plans are still up in the air so I don't know what we're doing for dinner. I think I'm going to do some embroidery if I have time.

Randomness: Where do you want to travel to? I'm thinking more realistic plans than 6 month dream vacations. Personally, I'd like to go back to Montreal (I spent a few days there my senior year of high school) for maybe a long weekend. Visiting Boston for a regular weekend rather than for a con where I never leave the hotel would also be fun. And of course, a day trip to New York City would be great. It's been far to long since I went.

Body: Today I'm in good shape, and my doctor appointment this morning went well.

Reading: Still March to the Stars and Lean Mean Thirteen at home, Shadow Unit here at work.

Hearing: Back episodes of Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me

Wearing: Nothing interesting.

Etsy find: A fun t-shirt illustrating human evolution.

Tonight's Project: Probably some embroidery

Randomness: The doctor's appointment this morning was a consultation with a surgeon. I have an appointment to have my gallbladder removed on November 6th.

I'm stealing an idea from several people on my flist, and starting daily status report. I'll be posting it on my lunch break at work, and cross posting it to Facebook when I get home for the day.

Body: A little bit of gut pain this morning, but it seems to have gone away. I'm limping my first ten steps or so every time I stand up, but other than that I'm not having any issues.

Reading: At home, I'm re-reading March to the Sea by David Weber and John Ringo. Here at work I'm re-reading Shadow Unit, getting ready for next week's season finale.

Hearing: The Irish and Celtic Music Podcast Good Celtic influenced music, split about 50/50 between pub songs and... I guess you could call them "art" songs, for lack of a better term.

Wearing: Clothing-wise, nothing interesting; no jewelry/accessories beyond my wedding ring; today's perfume is Bliss, by Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab. I smell like good hot chocolate!

Etsy find: Wallpaper flower Child 1/2 sleeve top A slate gray short-sleeved shirt with a William Morris Peony screen-printed on it.

Tonight's Project: Turning the rest of yesterday's apples into apple sauce, maybe some embroidery.

Randomness: Nothing special to put here today. Do you guys have any suggestions?

Which is finer, fingering weight, lace weight, or sock weight? Would any (or all) of them be good thicknesses for embroidering with?

I see all this beautiful hand dyed yarn for sale on Etsy, and want to play with it. Until I actually get around to learning how to knit or crochet, working it into my embroidery seems like my best bet.
