Oh, finally. Now my friend who's deathly allergic to corn and all its works might be able to stop shopping at Whole Foods!

There are still a lot of other corn products being used, but yeah, this does seem like a really big step in that direction.

OUCH thats bad. really bad. heck of a thing to be allergirgic to. has she read "the omnivores dilemna"? it tells you what all they make from corn, including "natural flavors"

Well, you know, if something makes her barf in that special way, she just doesn't buy it again. Keeping it away from her kid has been a struggle, though.

I've a friend allergic to corn who was over the moon when Pepsi did some of their sodas using real sugar! Not like she wanted the sugar either, but hey, she could drink it if she wanted to.

i would be a lot more cheerful, except i fear they will just replace it with more aspartame

Very doubtful. Aspartame and sucralose, etc., are for the diet (as in DIE with a T) sodas and such, and already have a specific market. Those who drink or eat the HFCS stuff are very much NOT going to take replacing it with some pansy-ass artificial sweetener that doesn't actually taste like anything edible.

except that in many places they are already IN the non diet stuff, because they are cheap.
not sucralose so much, but aspartame.

its in so many powdered drinks.... its in non diet lemonade. its in EVERYTHING soda in England.

trust me, they want to keep the sweetness up, but lose the HFCS? they will try to use aspartame.. because its cheap.

as someone whoo thinks the stuff is poison, and whose husband is allergic to it, and who has friends who are violently allergic to it, i keep an eye on the use of the stuff..... its going into more and more non "diet" foods.

Well, I haven't seen that much here; some packaging tricks to try to make you get the diet version, yes, but it's always clearly lower calorie and thus artificial sweetener. No artificial sweetener fools me for a split second; they all have a nasty, nasty taste. I know one person who gets literally STONED on the stuff (and very little of it), others who just get sick.

I'll be interested in a sugar substitute the very minute they can make one that can fool me, and works exactly like sugar in all my recipes. I'm not holding my breath.

Coming from someone who has to read labels very carefully these days, I'm very glad to see this happening. I'm not sure where they will go for sweeteners, but HFCS needs to go away, and I'm glad it is.

Were I them, I'd just start cultivating a lot of sugarcane.

Or figure out a cheap process to SYNTHESIZE sugar. It's a pretty simple molecule, I'd think it wouldn't be that hard to make.

This makes me very happy. I am highly allergic to corn. I will not be running out to buy soft drink made with sugar though. It's been about 20 years since I've had any carbonated drinks. I think the carbonation would make me sick now.
