6" is a bit small for me. The DX looks more like the right size but $380 is pricey.

It doesn't really feel any smaller a reading area than a paperback book. Last time I was there they had a demo model and a few for sale at the Colonie Target. That was a gen 2, this new release is gen 3.

My elderly eyes are no longer finding paperbacks friendly.

That's why the adjustable font size is a good thing.

True, but that applies to my iPhone as well, and I can't use that as an ebook reader. Enlarging the text means having to scroll to view parts of the page that now no longer fit. A larger screen would eliminate this problem.

The Kindle doesn't do that. When you change the print size it rearranges the text enough that it all still fits on the screen. It might be a problem with PDFs though. I'm not sure about that.

If you're free this weekend, would you like to get together and take a look at mine?

I am alas almost never "free" on weekends -- either I have to do something like work around the house, or there's some Family Event, or -- if I'm lucky -- I get to write.

I appreciate the offer. I'm sure I'll get to see a bunch of them at Albacon!

No problem, and like I said Target now carries them in their electronics department, so you might be able to check one out there.

I'm waiting for a reader big enough to read gamebook PDFs on, without either excessive scrolling or eyestrain.

Hm. I think that requires one more step up the size ladder, so the screen's like the size of a standard game manual, maybe a bit bigger.

Yup. I looked at the Ipad and it was definitely too small a screen for what I want.

I think at that point you might as well just get a laptop. Although the screen on the DX is roughly standard hardcover page sized.

I have them on my laptop. Unfortunately, most gamebooks are formatted in two columns, which requires much scrolling up and down to read them properly.

There are a couple of readers announced that might do, if they get to actual reality as opposed to vaporware.
